12.5 km

Last week I touched 10 km mark. This week I planned to run bit extra. Had planned this run today. Proper diet and sleep a day before helped. There was a lecture rescheduled in the evening which was communicated to us very late. Bunked the lecture and went for the planned run.

Started running at a very steady pace, infact was running at the same pace till the end. Took 2 stops in way to drink water. Comfortably completed 12.5 kms (run the route http://treksee.com/p/6kv)  in about 70 minutes. Had a very rapid recovery. Looking forward for day tomorrow how my body reacts.

Have 2 quizzes too early morning and a end term in evening.

I need to drink more water deliberately. It will harm me in long run. Currently I drink less than 2-3 glasses a day.

Pythagorean Theorem Proof using Circles

This is outcome of boredom in managment classroom :)

Pythagoras Theorem proof using properties of Circle and tangent

Consider triangle ABC, right angled at B. To prove

AB^2+BC^2=AC^2

Construction:

Draw circle X with AB as diameter. This circle cuts AC at O. Construct another circle Y with BC as diameter. Circle cuts AC at P.

From properties of Tangent and circle
Now AB is tangent to circle Y at B. Hence

AB^2 = (AP)(AC) ……(i)
Similarly, BC is tangent to circle X at B.

BC^2 = (OC)(AC) …(ii)

Adding (i) and (ii)

AB^2 + BC^2 = (AP)(AC) + (OC)(AC) = (AC)(AP + OC)

Now since AB is diameter to Circle X, Angle AOB is right angled. Similarly P is on circle Y with BC diameter. Hence angle BPC is right angled. Thus BP as well as BO is perpendicular to line AC; which is not possible unless they are same point. Hence OP = 0.

or

AP + OC = AC   …(iii)

Hence AB^2 + BC^2 = AC^2

XLRI dream run

It was Ravikanth from IIT Hostel 9 who inspired me running a marathon. I always admired him, and 2nd-3rd year of my BTech I tried running long. But was never regular and couldn’t run more than couple of kilometers. I never ran after that. I gained 10 kgs of weight, thanks to Pondicherry and lifestyle at work. Dombivli/Mumbai suburbs is not a great place to run.

When I came to XLRI, one of my aim was to loose weight and run a marathon. XLRI first term went in “acclimatization” and finding company for the run. I think all people are just lazy like me, waiting for company, so in the end nobody turns running. I broke this laziness in second term, ventured in jubilee park in morning and found some good tracks to run. My colleagues at Cushman & Wakefield had given me athletic shoes on my send off, which helped running on tar roads. However, since I ran only in morning I was never regular. I suffered so many injuries. Read the rest of this entry »
